Your Spare Change Could Help These 5 Charities Immensely

January is the Monday of the months. It’s the first month after the awesome weekend that is the holidays, it’s cold, and there’s not much to do. It’s easy to feel uninspired and unproductive during this time. I know I was feeling that way! (Nobody check the fact that there is a missing blog post from the 3rd week of January…). What is a person to do to keep their spirits up while the house threatens to blow down from the crisp wind?

Make time to be kind.

What? “Make time to be kind”? What on earth does that mean?

I’m not positive, honestly! But I saw it this morning on a $2 rainbow wood plaque I got from the craft store while I was picking up my newest round of quarantine painting supplies and for some reason today it spoke to me. This might sound absolutely absurd, and it could be the winter boredom threshold has faltered, but this dorky decoration really has inspired me for a fabulous use of the PennyProfit app…charitable giving!

A lot of folks donate to charity on a regular basis, but if you’re like me and it slips your mind more often than not, setting a portion of your round-ups to automatically divert to a Charity Jar is a great way to keep that giving going without having to divert brain power to remembering to donate. After a few months you will log in to your account and find you have $50, $100, $200 to give to your favorite charity! How cool would that be?

With this brand new idea I wanted to research some awesome charities that can help give you ideas of who you’d like to work with. These are the top 5 I found.

Crisis Text Line

Some days are harder than others. We sort of joke about the isolation and boredom that comes sometimes, especially in winter, but for many those thoughts can be very harmful. That is why the Crisis Text Line exists. Anyone can text 741741 to be connected to a trained counselor who can help them work through the feelings they are going through. This is an especially important resource in places where people are struggling with anxiety and isolation due to Covid-19 restrictions.

American Humane

Who doesn’t love animals? Ok, maybe some people don’t, however, I think we can all agree that living creatures deserve proper food, medical care, hygiene, and a cozy place to sleep. This is what the American Humane Society exists to provide.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

This organization aids in researching both Leukemia & Lymphoma in the hopes of finding a cure. It also helps support those families with a diagnosis financially and mentally.

Prevent Child Abuse America

This charity is on a mission to stop child abuse and neglect in the US. They use your donations to run parent education programs as well as to advocate for federal policies that promote children’s health and safety.

Charity: water

One in 10 people around the world do not have access to clean drinking water. This charity hopes to change this by bringing clean and safe drinking water to developing countries. Through donations like yours, they have already funded over 29,000 water projects around the world.

Did any of these charities catch your eye? This is by no means an exhaustive list of all of the amazing organizations doing wonderful things out there, but perhaps it inspired you to make time to be kind. Let us know in the comments what your favorite charities are and why!
